NEC Classic Car Show November 16th/17th 2002

Great Show, great visitors! This was the first TVR Car Club event I've helped with, and I was pleasantly surprised at the response of the visitors. It was almost impossible to get away for a cup of coffee, as each time I tried to go there was another person waiting to chat!

The number of Kangaroos in the hall meant it was bound to end in tears for some!

Show Report

The weekend was very busy, even a visitor from Belgium made it despite train problems. Thanks to everyone who came to say hello, and to the TVR Car Club crew for having the 3000M on display and making it great fun.

Cars on display were Justin's Taimar, Nick's 450SE, and the Minifix 3000M.

If you were the chap I spoke to on Sunday about the TVR 2500 (re: bonnets), I was later told that they were the same size as the Vixen bonnet. A good book to buy for general classic TVR information is The TVRs by Graham Robson. I have an old 1988 copy so I think the book has more than one volume now - the new one being for newer cars.

Many of you wanted to know about the vinyl roof on the 3000M and its paint finish - well it's basically two pack with an added plasticiser (used to make the paint flexible). It's normally used for painting rubber spoilers or tarpaulins on trucks - so it won't crack even when stretched. It has to be applied using an air fed respirator though due to its high toxicity.

The triple carb conversion was another talking point - more work on this mod. appearing on 24th March when new website is launched - I am currently fitting special stub stacks to improve air intake area due to the low bonnet clearance on this car.

TVR Car Club Track Day - Castle Combe June 20th 2003

Castle Combe TVRCC Track Day 2003
Arrived at 11am, had to park out of paddock area as teams were arriving for the weekend's racing. Teams included TVR Cerberas, Porsches plus others in the Formula GT Championship, and Formula 3. Great weather and not busy, this certainly is the best time to visit the circuit.
I saw two M Series cars - a blue 1600M (i think as it had no "bolt on" silencers), and a Beige 3000M with a cream stripe which needed a serious bolt on silencer! A shame that sports cars are now having their noise reduced only on the track - does that make sense?

3000M's are now rare at track days

Roadgoing Tuscan racer!

April 9th 2003 - Sony Playstation 2 data collection event - for new game Gran Turismo 4

The M-Fix orange TVR 3000M will be appearing on this game!

I was invited to take the car over to the Millbrook proving ground near Milton Keynes, where Sony had a 3 day session of sound and photographic data recording for selected sportscars. Plenty of TVRs were there and I'm told around 700 cars altogether will be on this game. A fun day, free tank of fuel, a 135mph trip in a VTS Saxo around the circular banked track (as a passenger), along with extreme driving around the other courses, and some great food in a building called "The Pod". Needless to say the food was excellent, as they were catering for the Japanese Technical Team. I can vouch for the Saxo grab handles - well up to the job!

Now I just have to wait & see if the car will be a driveable one or one of the CG cars to race against! The data collected should make it very realistic.

Sorry about the lack of photos - security took my camera (I think because of the new cars visible on the proving tracks in MIRA)!
